Daniel

My name is Daniel and I was born in a small city in Florida, U.S.A. I was raised in Kansas until high school and then moved to Florida where I graduated to go on to college. After two years of college in Florida, I moved to Sweden. In Sweden I continued my studies. Traveling and experiencing college abroad is an experience I recommend to all that wish to gain a more worldly perspective.

After living in Sweden for a number of years I came back to the United States, where I found my first job. I worked at a University in Boston. My accounting degree allowed me to enter the University working as a procurement specialist, assisting various departments with their supplies and purchasing. While I learned a lot working at the University, I found that working behind the scenes of the school is not the same as working amongst the students directly to critically think and solve problems.

Eventually, I found work in Chongqing, China working as a mathematics teacher within an international school. I gained a good deal of experience and found that the classroom is where I belong. To this day I am still surprised that I ended up in China but I am having the time of my life. I really enjoy all that China has to offer and hope to become the best teacher and student I can be.

I was told to give a suggestion to students that may attend my class, so here are my thoughts. I suggest you work hard and follow your heart because gifts are rarely given from above. They usually come from the struggles below. One famous astronomer, Carl Sagan, makes a rather famous quote which I sometimes use to describe the complexity of our world and all that makes it exist. It goes like this.“If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.” I think this aptly describes the opportunities we all have to bring something useful to the vast world that Sagan sometimes calls the Pale Blue Dot.
