Hello,my name is Nigel Worsley and I teach ESL and Civics in the International Department of ShuRen School in Yangzhou.
I was born and raised in England and eventually moved to Australia in 2000 where I lived for many years. I now have 2 nationalities, British and Australian, which means I hold 2 passports.
I achieved an Advanced Diploma in TESOL, TESL and TEFL, and I have completed my Masters Degree in TESOL. I am also recognised by C.I.T.A, which is the Consortium for International TESOL Accreditation, and that means that I am fully qualified to teach ESL all over the world.
Civics is essentially a course that involves teaching students some of the differences between western society and the society they have been used to all their lives.
It teaches them how governments work, why we have rules and laws, rights and duties that differ from country to country. They learn about elections and how people are voted into positions of office in a democratic way, as well as some of the basic principles of democracy.
Whether it’s the Chairman of China, the President of the USA or the Prime Minister of Canada, these people are responsible to their country and the people of the country are responsible for themselves, in other words, ‘we are all responsible for our own actions’
